Question: Does The Bible Say We Can Eat Meat?
Does The Bible Say We Can Eat Meat?
God gave meat for humans to eat
Before the flood of Noah, God had only given plants for people to eat but after the flood God gave meat for us to eat.
(God says); “Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything” (Genesis 9:4).
God Himself instructed the Israelites to eat meat (lamb) in the Passover. This was to commemorate the angel ‘passing over’ the Israelites and not killing the first born of the household. At this time, an innocent lamb was sacrificed and the blood of the lamb was placed on the doorposts. Now Jesus was without sin and shed His blood for us. “ ... Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed” (1 Corinthians 5:7). Through Jesus shedding His blood we can have our sins forgiven.
What Jesus says
“Jesus asked them. ‘Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them’" (Matthew 14:17-20).
Jesus tells that it is not food that will make us impure. The problem is the evil in the heart of man.
God allows us to eat meat. We can (without feeling guilty) kill cows for meat.
